The VAFRE e-news

From the President

Enjoy the last gasps of summer!  I hope that you are enjoying these last few weeks of summer as a time for organizing and planning for successful fall campaigns.  As you plan, be sure to mark your calendars for VAFRE meetings.  For me, they are a time of renewal, a moment to share ideas with my colleagues and learn from our distinguished guests.  If you have a friend or colleague who you think might benefit from a VAFRE meeting, please bring them along as a guest.  We love guests, as they introduce VAFRE to a wider community, and are frequently inspired to become members!

Our board is hard at work ensuring that you get the most out of our VAFRE membership.  I hope that you will take advantage of all of the member benefits, and let us know if you ever have an idea that can enrich your experience.  See you soon!

Dan Stackhouse

Upcoming Programs

Join us on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 for our luncheon program Developing a Compelling, Competitive Case for Support with Mary Ellen Stumpf, president of Stumpf & Associates, Inc., and David Hogge, principal of The Working Word. They will review relevant trends and the key elements, including calls to action, inspirations for support and the management of content, of a good case statement from varying perspectives based on their experiences and research. Lunch will be served at noon with the program following.

Also, be sure to mark your calendar for an upcoming VAFRE luncheon on October 6, when Harry Warner and Jenn Cornell, with West Avenue Associates, LLC, share, review and discuss the results of a “blind” survey of the donor acknowledgement practices of 25 Richmond-area non-profit organizations in their program, Best of the Best: A Regional Donor Acknowledgment Survey

Check out the details on all of our upcoming meetings on the Events page of our website.

Don't Be a Lonely Fish - Register for P3 Today!

Ever feel like you’re the only fish in the sea? All alone with no one to talk to?

Joining P3 (Professional Partnership Program) will give you the opportunity to spend time with colleagues (Partners) in the development field, in a very flexible group setting (no more than six per group) facilitated by two seasoned Development professionals (Leaders). No more lonely fish!

Groups meet at least six times between October and May – at a time and place that works for everyone in the group. Conversation around job-related issues of greatest interest will be determined by the desires of each individual group, facilitated by the Leaders (read more program details).

Cost is $50 for the 2015/2016 class.

Please don’t miss out on this opportunity. And don’t wait - applications are being accepted through September 1st.

What Do Graduates of P3 Say About the Program?

Stimulating. Provocative. Eye-opening. Fun. Encouraging. Levelling. Amazing.

These are just a few of the words used to describe VAFRE’s Professional Partnership Program (P3) by the 2014-2015 participants.

If you're still not sure P3 is for you, join us at 11:30 on September 1st at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club for a glass of iced tea and a chance to talk with some of the graduates to hear what they got out of the program. Just e-mail our administrator, Mary Kidd, at admin@vafre.org to let her know you'd like to join the discussion.
