The VAFRE e-news

From the President

Today I am giving thanks.

Thanks for the opportunity to serve an organization whose mission I believe in deeply, who is transforming lives. Thanks for the role I serve with VAFRE. Thanks for the chance to collaborate with so many wonderful colleagues and friends in the non-profit community. Thanks for the many donors, volunteers, board members and organizations who give of their resources, be they time, talent, or treasure, to help us effect positive change in our community.

This is an incredibly busy time of year for all of us, as fundraising appeals go out and end of year giving is on the horizon. I hope that you will take a moment to think about all the people who you help, or who help you, to make the Richmond Region a better place. I encourage you to reach out to them. As we all know, a good thank you can be the most meaningful of rewards. To all of you who are members of VAFRE, who support your organizations and our larger non-profit family, I say the most important two words that I know.

Thank you.

Dan Stackhouse

Award Nominations Sought

As development professionals, we are all keenly aware of the high level of dedication and integrity that are so critical to the profession of fundraising. One of VAFRE’s goals--and privileges--is to recognize and celebrate the exemplary work of our colleagues. Now is the time to elevate those who inspire us daily, with a nomination for VAFRE’s Rising Star or Nina Abady Awards for fundraising excellence. Please help us honor our colleagues by nominating those among us who set the bar high and pave the way for us all.

Nominations are open now through December 18. The process is quick and user-friendly. Learn more about these awards, their criteria, past winners, and the process by clicking here

Upcoming Programs

Join us on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 for luncheon program Professional Community Service with Jamelle Wilson, Dean of the School of Professional and Continuing Studies at the University of Richmond.

Working in the nonprofit sector is a fulfilling experience.  Should we continue our service in the nonprofit community outside of work too?  Dean Wilson will cover why it is important for you and your organization to participate in multiple opportunities in your community on boards, committee or other volunteer service.

Our thanks to Halcyon Management, LLC, for their sponsorship of this meeting.

Mark your calendar for our upcoming VAFRE luncheon on January 5, 2015 when Lauren Kiger, VCU Massey Cancer Center, and Hunter Leemon, Sportable, provide research, strategies and case studies about Peer to Peer Online Fundraising Platforms.

Check out the details on all of our upcoming meetings on the Events page of our website.

Things Got Spooky at VAFRE's October Social!

What goes bump in the night and during the day in Richmond was exposed at VAFRE’s  social on October 22nd at The Poe Museum.

Participants started off with a "Richmond's Strange Stories" walking tour and then enjoyed some spooky tricks, treats and drinks at the Museum's Unhappy Hour. One lucky member got an extra treat: Sarah Fernald, Resource Development Manager at the Better Housing Coalition (pictured above left) received a $25 gift card from VAFRE that was placed in a random treat bag.
