Turning 30 is a significant milestone in VAFRE’s life and when asked what has contributed to the longevity of our organization my first thought is “its members”.  VAFRE was built by its membership and the glue that has held it together is its core values. Two years ago the VAFRE board developed Value Statements that were adopted by the membership.

These five statements serve as the guiding principles in the decision making process of your board and its committees:

  1. We believe our membership and programs should be affordable and accessible; we will ensure that our programs reflect the diversity and needs of our membership, with relevance to fundraising and nonprofit leadership.
  2. We will welcome and nurture all development professionals to cultivate and engage a diverse philanthropic community.
  3. We will exemplify the highest standards of accountability and ethics in nonprofit fundraising.
  4. We will serve as examples of servant leaders to the greater philanthropic community.
  5. We will model the best practices of the nonprofit community through technology, collaborative partnerships, and proactive strategic planning.
