Join VAFRE for an informal Mix & Mingle on Thursday, May 28th from 8-9 a.m. at The Bradbury in Charlottesville. Grab a drink and come mingle with other fundraising professionals in our community. Plus, we love meeting new people so feel free to bring a friend!

Join us on June 2nd for a session designed to strengthen your organization’s leadership and fundraising capacity by building a more informed, engaged, and effective board. This program provides practical guidance on board roles, responsibilities, and governance best practices that support strong oversight, strategic partnership, and mission-driven decision-making. Participants will gain tools to clarify expectations, strengthen accountability, improve communication, and foster meaningful board engagement. Designed for nonprofit leaders, the session will be led by Lisa Specter-Dunaway of Specter-Dunaway Consulting, and emphasizes actionable strategies that help boards move beyond compliance to become active ambassadors, advocates, and fundraising partners who advance organizational impact and sustainability.

Our Presenter

Lisa Specter-Dunaway, Specter-Dunaway Consulting

Lisa Specter-Dunaway, MPA, has spent more than 35 years in service to children, families, and communities, working in the nonprofit and public sectors. For 15 years, Lisa served as CEO of CHIP of Virginia and led its merger with Prevent Child Abuse Virginia, resulting in the formation of Families Forward Virginia. Throughout her career, three governors appointed Lisa to serve on boards and commissions, volunteered with many organizations, and chaired the boards of Circles RVA, Virginia Family and Children's Trust, SCAN, Second Presbyterian Child Care Center, and CHIP of Richmond. Lisa is committed to supporting nonprofit organizations and professionals as a trainer and consultant and is a certified Nonprofit Lifecycles Consultant. Most importantly, she is incredibly excited for the arrival of her first grandchild in October.

Registration Fees

In-person registration is $20 for members of VAFRE ($0 for those with a Season Pass or $12 for those with a Virtual Season Pass), $25 for Central Virginia Chapter AFP members and nonmembers who work at a member organization, and $30 for guests. All in-person registrants should select their meal during the registration process.
Virtual registration is $8 for members of VAFRE ($0 for those with a Virtual Season Pass), $11 for Central Virginia Chapter AFP members and nonmembers who work at a member organization, and $15 for nonmembers. The virtual registration fees help support the technology costs associated with offering a hybrid event.

VAFRE Summer Member Social (Thursday, June 11, 2026)

Join us for a VAFRE Member Social!

The VAFRE Membership Committee invites you to our Summer Member Social on Thursday, June 11th from 4-6 PM at Brambly Park.

Come relax and enjoy each other's company at Brambly Park, an urban winery located in the northwest corner of Richmond's Scott's Addition neighborhood (with outdoor seating and parking available).

We also invite all participants to participate in idea sharing by bringing 10 copies of any development or marketing collateral from your organization.

VAFRE will provide appetizers, as well as several bottles of red and white wine to share at our reserved tables (first come, first served).
