Message from the President
I hope this summer was fun and productive for everyone. Now the question on all of our minds is - how is summer almost over?!?! C’mon!
Whew. That’s out of my system. Okay...
We are very excited to continue and elevate the educational and networking opportunities for our members in our 37th year of VAFRE. We were thrilled to have Amy Holland and Nick Sollog provide insights and perspective about Planning for Year-End Giving at our most recent meeting (and see below for a link to the upcoming Deeper Dive). We look forward to building our knowledge and sharpening our skills throughout the year.
Register for our October 2nd session - Getting Ready to Get Ready: Laying the Groundwork for Your Capital Campaign, featuring our colleagues from St. Joseph’s Villa - CEO Kathleen Barrett, CFRE, CLU and Director of Development Jenny Friar.
Improv Time: Listen and Build
In the world of improv, we need to actively listen in order to build. We need to hear the dialogue - what is said, pick up on vocal cues - how it’s said, and understand the reason - why it’s said. This helps us create an amazing something and also allows for us to connect on new and shared levels.
In our development roles, we need to listen to the needs of our supporters, our organizations, our beneficiaries and our communities. If we hear the what, how, and why of each partner, we will create an opportunity for that amazing something to happen.
We are here to listen and build with you!
P.S. The deadline for P3 applications is September 15th. This is a valuable resource of our membership community; please consider being a part of it!
Applications for Year Six of P3 are Due Saturday!
The Professional Partnership Program (P3) offers VAFRE members an annual opportunity to develop more extensive professional skills and understanding through an optional self-supporting program. Issues and topics for each session will be solicited in advance and facilitated by the Leaders. The program has been described as “the cheapest group therapy available” and each year one or more of the past participants find it valuable enough to sign up for the program again.
Applications are now being accepted for year six, which begins later this month. Registration is $75. Fees offset program expenses and do not benefit team leaders except for the reimbursement of expenses associated with group meetings.
associated with group meetings.
Get Social With VAFRE
Have you been wanting to check out the VCU Institute of Contemporary Art and to catch up with fellow VAFRE colleagues? If your answer is "yes" to one or both of these, then you will not want to miss the next VAFRE Social taking place on October 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Institute of Contemporary Art.
By attending you will be able explore the new fall exhibition while networking with other non-profit professionals. A brief tour of some of the exhibits will be available along with light appetizers. Alcoholic beverages and additional food items will be available for purchase at the ICA Café.
This event is free to attend. Friends, family, and coworkers are welcome to attend as well. We hope to see you there.
