Message from the President
Happy holidays! So much has happened in 2018 -- and we’re looking forward to an exciting 2019.
We had a wonderfully rich-with-content and several aha-moments in our December session,Stewarding Donors of Different Levels, with Loren Hatcher (Director of Development, University of Virginia Curry School of Education Foundation) and guests Debbie Johnston (Founder, CareAdvantage, Inc., and Connecting Hearts) and John Lewis (The Lewis Group of BB&T Scott & Stringfellow.
Please mark your calendars for our special two hour, two part session on January 9 about Cultivating Resilience: Mindfulness to Recognize and Resist Burnout featuring Robyn Fehrman - director of programs, Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator at Duke University and founder, Mindful Type A, LLC. What a great way to start the year!
Improv Time: Gifts
Everything said (words) and done (everything else - actions, emotions and more) is a gift. To give a gift simply means to provide your partner(s) with information or an offer that they can “yes, and” even further. Listen and observe. Accept and use. Build and advance. Resolve to be open to the possibilities of what could be and what could happen now. Pause and take a moment to see how everything around you is a marvelous gift.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a happy new year. See you in 2019!
P.S. If don’t have your CFRE and you haven’t already completed the online CFRE application, make a new year’s resolution to do so. Find out if you’re eligible to take the CFRE exam.
Awards Nominations Sought
As development professionals, we are all keenly aware of the high level of dedication and integrity that are so critical to the profession of fundraising. One of VAFRE’s goals--and privileges--is to recognize and celebrate the exemplary work of our colleagues.
Now is the time to elevate those who inspire us daily, with a nomination for VAFRE’s Rising Star or Nina Abady Awards for fundraising excellence. Please help us honor our colleagues by nominating those among us who set the bar high and pave the way for us all.
Nominations are open now through December 21st. The process is quick and user-friendly. Learn more about these awards, their criteria, past winners, and the process by visiting the Awards page.
Thank you all for what you do each day to strengthen communities across the Commonwealth!
