Summer Survey Question:

If your fiscal year ended June 30, did your development team meet it's goals for 2018-2019?

Click here to participate in our one-question survey. See results of last month's survey below.

Early Summer Survey Results: How old are your donors?

While most survey respondents acknowledged they do not track the precise age of donors, anecdotally most are seeing an aging donor base. A snapshot:

  • Less than 15% of donors are in the 18 to 35 year old category,
  • For half of the survey respondents, about 25% of their donors fall between the ages of 36 and 49 years,
  • For most organizations, about 50% of donors are between the ages of 50 and 64, and
  • Some groups report less than 15% of their donors are over the age of 65, while at the other extreme just over 25% of respondents indicated that their donor base is more than 50% over the age of 65 years.

Message from the President

I hope that everyone has been enjoying this sunny and warm July. For many of us, July is the beginning of a new fiscal year and we have the opportunity to step back briefly, gain perspective on the previous year, and implement plans to succeed at our goals in the year to come.

The past fiscal year has been an eye-opener for me. And not in any way that I had anticipated. As you may know, I broke my leg in April and boy, talk about changing my perspective on things! Priorities shifted and I realized quickly how blessed I am to have an incredible family, friends, coworkers, and colleagues.

This unexpected event was also an opportunity to realize just how much I love my career and how much I missed it during my absence from work. While I wish no one the experience of an accident to bring about this type of realization, I hope that every one of us has the opportunity to take a step back this summer, renew, re-energize and remember just what it is that we love about the career path we have chosen.

I am very excited about the year ahead for VAFRE and am honored to have the opportunity to lead this fantastic organization as we move forward. Here’s to starting the new fiscal year with a refreshed sense of purpose and dedication to making each of our organizations, and VAFRE, the very best they can be!

With gratitude for all you do for our community,

Jennifer O’Rourke, CFRE, VAFRE President

Part  ner : one that shares

Are you new to fund development or would you like to enhance your professional skill sets?  If you answered “YES’ then VAFRE has great news for you!

The Professional Partnership Program (P3), now entering it's seventh year, offers VAFRE members the opportunity for small groups (the Partners) to meet a minimum of four times with two highly experienced facilitators (the Leaders) between October and June.

The Professional Partnership Program will encourage discussion and comment on job-related concerns of greatest interest to each group (identified by each participant completing an application detailing their interest and experience). Issues and topics for each session will be solicited in advance and facilitated by the Leaders.

Register by end of day September 11th to join this year's class. (You must be logged in to access this event.)

Thanks to Fahrenheit Advisors for their sponsorship of the P3 program.
