Message from the President

Happy Holidays!   It has been an exciting year for VAFRE and I am proud and honored to be helping to provide leadership to this fabulous group.  I am grateful for our amazing board, our fantastic administrator, Mary Kidd, and all of the incredible members of VAFRE who are truly passionate about creating a better community and world.  

A few quick holiday reminders:

  • Nominations for the 2020 Nina Abady and Rising Star Awards are open!  Please thoughtfully consider submitting a nomination for one or both awards. For the first time, this year nominations are open to VAFRE and AFP Central Virginia Chapter members!  The nomination form is due by January 31, 2020 and can be found on the Awards page of the website.
  • Sign up for our January 7th, 2020 meeting!  The topic is:  Ten Tips to Skyrocket Your Fundraising Career and Still Have a Life!  (I know I will get something out of this one :-).  Christine Casey, MBA, CFRE will present our first workshop of 2020. See additional details below.   
  • In the rush of this holiday season, don't forget to take a few moments to enjoy the wonder and magic of this time of year!

Our January 7th program will help you kick off the year right!

Passion and skills are critically important to excelling as a fundraising superstar, but what are you missing that will help you to skyrocket your career - while still having a life? Our presenter will discuss key lessons learned the hard way! Key topics will include: Networking; Teamwork & Communication; Cross-training; Listening & Asking; Goal-setting; Personal & Professional Development; and Self-care. Participants will have the chance to share their experiences in large group discussion as well a building their own personal/professional development plan utilizing a detailed workbook and tips from the group.

CFRE Application Deadline is January 15th

A voluntary credential that is recognized worldwide, the CFRE signifies a confident, ethical fundraising professional. It is how today’s fundraiser shows accountability, service, and commitment to making a difference for good. We believe the CFRE credential is vital to a fundraiser’s professional growth and that it sets the standard for ethical practice in the sector.

More than 6,700 fundraising professionals from over 20 countries are currently CFREs. They work throughout all segments of the nonprofit sector including healthcare, education, and the arts, where they bring adherence to rigorous standards in all aspects of their work.
