Who's Next? Submit Your Award Nominations!

If you take a moment and think about it, I’m certain you can think of a seasoned Development professional who has inspired you in your career, or a young gun who really impresses you. Isn’t it time they joined the ranks of VAFRE’s award winners?

Each year, VAFRE is honored to recognize some of the best development talent in the area with our Nina Abady and Rising Star Awards. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2022 Awards. All nominations should be submitted by January 31st.

The Nina Abady Award is presented to a fundraising professional who has demonstrated utmost excellence in the field of development. The award signifies to individuals, organizations, and the greater community that the recipient has garnered the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the Commonwealth for professional and ethical service.  Learn more about the Nina Abady Award.

The Rising Star Award is made annually to an individual who exhibits excellent potential and who has demonstrated remarkable talents at an early stage in their fund-raising career (less than ten years in development). Learn more about the Rising Star Award.

Both Awards are open to members of VAFRE and the Central Virginia Chapter AFP.

      Board Nominations Sought

The VAFRE Nominating Committee is seeking nominations to fill vacant positions for the Board of Directors for the 2022/2023 fiscal year. Now is the time to take your membership to the next level and make a commitment to VAFRE or to nominate someone else for the Board. Your nominations are needed by Monday, February 28, 2022. Each nominee will receive a Candidate Interest Form that must be completed to be considered for a position by the Nominating Committee.

Eligibility and Term of Office: To be a director, you must be a member, in good standing.  Each elected Director shall take office on July 1, 2022 for a two-year term and is responsible for, along with other Board members, determining VAFRE policies and supporting the mission of the organization. Time commitment includes a board meeting the first Tuesday of every other month (schedule variable until we can meet again in-person) and the time needed to complete the tasks of your board role.

        February Program Goes Virtual

Due to the increasing number of COVID cases around the country and in Virginia, the Programs Committee along with the VAFRE Board of Directors has determined that it is wise to shift our February 1st event to a virtual-only session.

The success of a development officer is greatly dependent on the relationships they build with donors, staff members, volunteers, and stakeholders. One of those relationships that we do not always talk about is the one we have with our Development Committee Chair. Whether you inherited the one you have now or selected them personally, this relationship is like any other relationship - bound to have its ups and downs, challenges, and successes.

In this VAFRE program, Working with Your Development Chair, you will have the opportunity to hear about the experiences of three development executives with their development committee chairs, and how they have managed their relationships through both good and hard times to ultimately operate a successful development committee. Click here for complete details and to register..
