Join us to discuss how to shape your governing board into a powerhouse fundraising board of directors. Discussion will include things to consider when recruiting and on-boarding new directors and how to empower your board to be successful fundraisers.

Our Presenter

Waite Rawls became the Executive Director of the Museum of the Confederacy in January 2004 and was elected President and CEO in November 2006. In 2013 he was instrumental in founding the American Civil War Museum, which includes the Museum and White House of the Confederacy, becoming its co-CEO. With the creation of its Foundation in 2016, he became its first President, a position from which he retired in 2019. Formerly, he spent thirty years as an investment banker in New York and Chicago, including being the Vice Chairman of Continental Bank. Additionally, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Visiting Professor at the Darden School. 

Waite is a Trustee of the Camp Foundation, a former Trustee of the Civil War Trust and of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, a former Trustee and President of the Alumni Association of the Darden School, and a former member of the Board of Visitors of the Virginia Military Institute. He currently serves on the Board of the Essex Bank. A native of Franklin, Virginia, he has a BA from the Virginia Military Institute and his MBA and JD from the University of Virginia. He received an honorary Doctor of Civil Law from Sewanee, the University of the South. He joined the Franklin Civil War Roundtable at age 9.

    • Regular/Gluten free: Honey BBQ Chicken, baked beans with sweet corn (not on the cob), warm rolls available
    • Vegetarian: Tri color cheese tortellini and broccoli with basil pesto

    COST TO ATTEND

    $20 for members (no additional fee for Season Pass holders), $25 for nonmembers employed by a member organization, and $30 for nonmember guests. Fees support program costs and administration. Registrations should be received by end of day February 26th.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Credits for a future meeting or refunds will be given if notification of cancellation is received at VAFRE’s office prior to noon on the Thursday before a regular Tuesday meeting. If cancellation is received after the Thursday before a regular Tuesday meeting, credits and refunds will be given at the discretion of the Management Company based on the number of late registrations received. In the event of illness or an emergency, credits or refunds may be granted at the discretion of the Management Company.
