Letter from the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues, Last week I learned that, as of July 1, VAFRE has 278 members – the most our association has ever had. I was excited and, to be honest, somewhat surprised to hear this because I know folks in our industry are…well…busy. It’s not uncommon for someone to tell me that they’re doing the job of 2 or 3 people. It can be tough to find the time to take part in professional development opportunities, to attend educational programming, or to volunteer. But when organizations listen and respond to the needs, expectations, and interests of their members, that is when the growth happens. And speaking of interests, VAFRE’s September 10th program will engage participants in what will surely be an eye-opening conversation about compensation in the nonprofit community. My friend and predecessor, Will Glasco, will present the findings from the VAFRE and Warner & Associates’ compensation survey, alongside Esther Nand, who will discuss Warren Whitney’s compensation survey results. Join us and learn how you can use the data these surveys uncovered to advocate for yourself in the profession. VAFRE will continue to thrive because it is an organization that is intentional about listening to its members. And in that same spirit, I hope you won’t hesitate to reach out any time and share your feedback with me. Help Wanted!

Are you comfortable facilitating meetings on Zoom? Do you like to attend VAFRE's monthly programs? Have we got the job for you!

The Board of Directors has approved a request from the Programs Committee to offer a complimentary one-year membership, as well as a complimentary registration, to all of our monthly programs for one individual who will act as our technical support/in-room host for the virtual portion of our hybrid programs.

Current and prospective members are eligible for this offer.

Register for the Professional Partnership Program by September 1!

DEFINITON: Part ● ner: one that shares

Are you new to fund development or would you like to enhance your professional skill sets? If you answered "YES," then VAFRE has great news for you!

The Professional Partnership Program (P3), now entering its twelfth year, offers VAFRE members the opportunity for small groups (the Partners) to meet a minimum of four times with two highly experienced facilitators (the Leaders) between October and June. 

The Professional Partnership Program will encourage discussion and comment on job-related concerns of greatest interest to each group as identified by the participant applications. Issues and topics for each session will be solicited in advance and facilitated by the Leaders.

REGISTRATIONS and ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION should be received by end of day on September 1.

September 10th Program: A Look at Nonprofit Development Compensation

An ongoing and important conversation in the nonprofit community is about compensation. Have organizations kept pace among rising costs and inflation?

Recently, VAFRE, working with Warner & Associates, and Warren Whitney carried out two compensation surveys to better understand the landscape and help employers and employees know where they stand. Join us on September 10th as Will Glasco with VAFRE and Esther Nand from Warren Whitney discuss each survey, what they found, and how you can use the data to advocate for yourself in the profession.
